Ravens coach fined $15K for hitting referee

Baltimore Ravens vs St. Louis Rams

BALTIMORE, Sept. 21 by UPI

Baltimore Ravens Coach John Harbaugh was slapped with a $15,000 fine for making contact with a referee, an NFL spokesman said Tuesday.

The league said the fine was levied on Harbaugh for making impermissible verbal and physical contact with an official during the Ravens' 15-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Harbaugh verbally harangued line judge Ron Marinucci and hit him in the chest while trying to demonstrate why a hit from Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs on Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer was within the legal "strike zone."

The Ravens told the newspaper Harbaugh would address the fine Wednesday.

On Monday, he told reporters he may have went too far in making contact with Marinucci. "I was a little animated in describing the strike zone, and I think he understood the emotions of it," the coach said.

(somebody buy this guy a ref you suck t-shirt!)

No Touchdown for Calvin Johnson, Headache for Referees

Published by Lauren Finnegan

In the Chicago Bears' season-opening game against the Detroit Lions Sunday night, there was a call made in the final minute of the game that won't soon be forgotten. Calvin Johnson, a wide
receiver for the Lions, was in the end zone and caught the ball. However, after he hit the ground, the ball bounced out of his hands. After reviewing the call and saying it wasn't a touchdown, the officials upheld the ruling on the field.

This call was based off of a little-known rule called the Bert Emmanuel Rule, according to Freep.com. The Bert Emmanuel Rule was enacted after the 1999 NFC Championship game where Emmanuel, a wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, had his catch overturned. The rule overturns a catch by a player who doesn't maintain possession of the ball after it hits the ground. Even though this is a rule clearly stated in the NFL rule books, it still caused a lot of controversy afterward.

Fight Breaks Out During Women's College Soccer Game (VIDEO)

In the middle of a women's college soccer match between the Oregon Ducks and Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Friday night, two players were given red cards and ejected from the game for fighting.

Oregon's Mercedes Walters and Oklahoma State's Kyndall Treadwell started to fight in the 63rd minute. Walters pushed Treadwell to the ground and the referee immediately gave both of them red cards.

The Cowgirls won the game 1-0.

Although the scuffle wasn't as serious as infamous Elizabeth Lambert pulling a player down by her ponytail, the rough altercation still warranted ejections. Click to watch the video.
